Toppan Group acquires Italian BOPP film company

Toppan Holdings, a subsidiary of India-based Toppan Specialty Films Private Limited, has acquired 80% of the issued shares of Irplast, an Italian-based high-performance BOPP film manufacturer.
Irplast is a manufacturer of high-performance BOPP films, using simultaneous biaxial orientation technology that is widely used in various fields, including packaging and labels for food, personal, and home care. These films are also noted for their lower environmental impact and greater recyclability.
According to the company's press release, Toppan aims to integrate Irplast’s advanced manufacturing technologies into its operations, enabling the development of innovative BOPP film solutions that cater to various market demands. Commenting on the development, Hiroshi Suzuki, executive officer of the Toppan Group, said, "This acquisition represents a significant step forward in Toppan's business growth and technological innovation in the film business. By incorporating the advanced technologies and expertise of Irplast, we are confident that we can further enhance our sustainable solutions.”
This acquisition also aligns with Toppan's strategic goals of sustainability after receiving net-zero target validation from the Science Based Targets initiative for its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and the acquisition of Sonoco’s Thermoformed & Flexible Packaging business to expand sustainable packaging in North and South America.
