The SIES School of Packaging Star Awards 2025 8th edition was held at the CIDCO Convention Hall on 18 February 2025. Just over 150 guests attended the event which revealed 120 winners.

Out of the 206 entries received by the SIES SOP, 120 winners were chosen across categories—beverages, e-commerce, food, pharmaceutical, labeling and decoration, industrial, packaging machine systems, and packaging materials. In total, 43 companies participated in the awards, in addition to student and faculty entries from researchers in packaging and chemical engineering.

ITC swept the awards by bagging 12 awards, UFlex followed by bagging eight awards, while Parksons Packaging won seven awards. SB-Constantia, Tata Consumer Products, and Hindustan Unilever bagged six awards each, while TCPL Packaging bagged five awards.

President’s Special Awards were awarded to Hershey India for their kisses-shaped tin pack, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Mumbai for the use of direct screen printing on their Dove shower gel and soap bar, Kenvue India for their design and creativity in Fresh Moments Premium Johnsons Baby gift sets that offer varied packaging options for travel, Tata Consumer Products Limited for innovation and aesthetics in the 1868 gift pack range, UFlex Limited for sustainability in their Flexcoat waterborne coating.

Padma Vibhushan Dr Man Mohan Sharma was the chief guest for the event. He is a distinguished chemical engineer, who served as the Director of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), a fellow of the Royal Society, UK. He has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and the Leverhulme Medal. Chakravarthi AVPS, global ambassador, World Packaging Organization, was the guest of honour for the event.

Prasad Balan Iyer, director, SIES School of Packaging, noted a two-fold increase in several entries focussing on recyclability and biodegradability. Iyer announced that the SIES School of Packaging became the first Indian institute to be a member of the International Safe Transit Association packaging.

All the winning entries are qualified to enter the World Star 2026 awards organised by the World Packaging Organisation, with enrollment opening in June 2025. Star Awards rebranded to 2025 (after holding  2023 last year) to simplify applications for the World Star ceremony. One outstanding fact was how more than 50% of Star Awards winners have gone on to win World Star Awards in 2024.

When WhatPackaging? magazine spoke to one of the top FMCG brands, the young team said, "It’s really incredible to be recognised in this way, I think it’s true testament to the packaging team and the real passion and craftsmanship that goes into every new product development in a tough marketplace."
