ReCircle’s Diwali waste collection drive was conducted from 14 to 27 October. More than 300 people and 150+ vehicles conducted free door-to-door pickups across Mumbai. The teams collected all types of dry waste including paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, eWaste, clothing, footwear, and utensils. This Diwali, ReCircle’s Diwali Waste Collection Drive collected more than 45,000 kilograms of dry waste. 

“The numbers speak for themselves; we are at a point where we have to intentionally make decisions about how we live our lives and how much we consume if we want to have a sustainable future. In recent times, endless cycles of ‘best deals and sales’ have skyrocketed waste in our landfills and oceans, pushing us to think about whose problem it is,” said Rahul Nainani, CEO and co-founder of ReCircle. 

The collected waste will be sent to ReCircle’s material & textile recovery facility in Dahisar, Mumbai, where it is cleaned, processed and bailed. The waste will be segregated by ReCircle’s informal waste workers. This processed waste will then be sent out to recyclers who will convert it into raw material for new products, diverting it from landfills and our water bodies back into the economy.
