The current edition of Two Sides highlights consumers’ perception towards the paper industry. The survey questioned over 10,000 consumers from over 16 countries across the world.

The Trend Tracker Survey 2020 also deduced that 62% of consumers see paper and cardboard packaging as better for the environment.

Based on a range of environmental, visual and physical attributes, consumers were asked the best of packaging materials. The options included paper/cardboard, plastic, glass and metal.

“Paper/cardboard was positioned best for environmental factors like home compostable (76%), better for the environment (55%) and easier to recycle (49%).”

The biennial survey also showed that 19% of consumers agreed they are responsible for reducing single-use non-recyclable packaging. 39% believe that governments and local authorities are accountable for the same.

Whether paper or plastic is the most sustainable substrate, the choice will depend on the application. The problem counts on re-usage and restoration of the packaging material into the production cycle.

Founded in 2008, Two Sides is a non-profit, global initiative promoting the unique sustainable and attractive attributes of print, paper and paper packaging. The aim is to explain and communicate the sustainability and effectiveness of print, paper and paper packaging.
