Chakravarthi: Your innovations are not just making packaging better. They are making the world better.

Padma Vibhushan Prof Dr Manmohan Sharma and AVPS Chakravarthi, global ambassador, World Packaging Organisation, presided over the SIES SOP Star Awards 2025.

“A well-designed package can turn a product into an experience—and an experience into a lasting memory,” said AVPS Chakravarthi in his guest of honour address. He spoke about the impact of packaging and the need for sustainable and efficient solutions.

“Packaging is more than just a protective layer. It is the first thing a consumer sees and touches, and often influences their choice. It keeps food fresh, medicines safe, and deliveries secure. But packaging is evolving—it is becoming smarter, more sustainable, and more aligned with global needs.”

Chakravarthi stressed that sustainability is now a responsibility. Governments, businesses, and consumers worldwide are demanding greener solutions. “We are seeing biodegradable and compostable materials that reduce pollution. More companies are adopting recyclable and reusable packaging to minimise waste. Lightweight designs are cutting transportation costs and carbon emissions.”

He highlighted the role of technology in packaging. “Smart packaging is enhancing consumer experiences. QR codes and NFC tags provide instant access to product origins, recycling instructions, and personalised offers. Blockchain technology is improving traceability, ensuring authenticity and ethical sourcing.”

He also addressed the rise of eCommerce. “Frustration-free packaging reduces waste and improves convenience. Right-sizing minimises empty space in delivery boxes, making logistics more efficient.” He noted that digital printing is enabling brands to create customised, limited-edition packaging, enhancing consumer engagement.

Chakravarthi spoke on regulatory changes. “Governments are enforcing bans on single-use plastics, recycling mandates, and Extended Producer Responsibility programmes. Companies that act now—by adopting eco-friendly materials, reducing carbon footprints, and designing for recyclability—will lead the industry.”

He concluded by stating that packaging is undergoing a major transformation. “The future of packaging isn’t just about containing products. It’s about innovation, responsibility, and creating meaningful consumer connections. Businesses that adapt will enhance their brand value and contribute to a more sustainable global economy.”
