The return of Campa Cola
Campa Cola is back.
The other interesting tit-bit is Campa Cola has been relaunched at a lower price; of Rs 15 lower than Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. This has triggered brands like PepsiCo and Coca-Cola to also set up discounts in their beverages. Both the brands have directed their teams to step up trade discounts, consumer promotions and local marketing spends.
Reliance Consumer Products announced the launch of Campa Cola in cola, lemon and orange flavours in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The company aims to roll out the product in other markets soon. The market has been dominated by PepsiCo and Coca-Cola since the early 90s.
Even for Pack-Man who loves crunching numbers, the data is staggering. Though the contribution of glass bottles in a distributor’s business is around 7-8%. There must be an increase in the contribution rate over 50%, to further boost the sales of glass bottles again.
Pack-Man says, it’s going to be kool times ahead.
Huber to present portfolio for metal packaging at Metpack
Pack-Man has been informed that Huber will showcase their range of specialty products at Metpack 2023 from 2-6 May, at its stand in Hall 1, Stand 1D43.
The highlights as per Pack-Man are: the relaunched NewV tin MGA series, which is designed for safe UV printing on food cans, and newly developed UV coatings for metal decoration applications.
German-based printing inks and chemicals specialist (with factories in Vapi and Silvassa) has developed its metal decoration portfolio characterised by three factors - comprehensiveness, quality and service.
HUL appoints new leader
HUL announced that Rohit Jawa will take over the company as CEO designate and whole-time director from 1 April 2023, and will take over as the new managing director and CEO of HUL from 27 June 2023.
Pack-Man has snooped around and learnt that as the chairman of Unilever Philippines, Jawa led the business to become one of the top 10 markets for Unilever globally.
Jawa will take over the mantle from Sanjiv Mehta who was appointed MD and CEO of HUL in October 2013. During Mehta’s decade at the helm, the business crossed the 50 thousand crore turnover mark and the market capitalisation of the company increased more than four times from USD 17 billion to USD 75 billion.
Tough act to follow, Mr Jawa!
CPI inflation at 6% for expensive products
Ooops, says Pack-Man!
Inflation based on the consumer price index (CPI) stayed high for the second consecutive month. The number eased to 6.44% in February from 6.52% in January, according to government data released.
Pack-Man finds out that the major reason for CPI inflation in February was due to food inflation and expensive non-food categories such as housing, household goods and services and health.
Moreover, food prices contribute to about 40% of the CPI market. Economists expressed concern over the rising prices of cereals, milk and spices that drove up the food prices.

PepsiCo is set to trial new paper-based outer packaging
Although this is a development in the UK, Pack-Man is delighted to taste new flavours with a blend of green!
The Walkers trial pack is recyclable and will replace plastic outer wrapping on more than 3,00,000 six-pack multipacks, across Sea Salt and Cheese and Onion flavours.
Walkers invested 14 million British Pounds in new sustainable packaging last year. The outcome: it will remove 250 tonnes of virgin plastic across its supply chain each year.
India as a global healthcare hub
Traditional practices such as ayurveda and yoga should be refined, packaged, and delivered globally. The vision for India as a healthcare hub for the world can be public-private partnerships.
For trade in healthcare to flourish, India should focus on a two-way exchange of goods and services. It should continue investing in healthcare education - both technical and business - to build the right labour force to serve this ambition.
