ITC submitted 12 samples in the Packaging Converter of the Year (F&B) category of PrintWeek Awards 2023, held on 30 October at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake.

The samples caught the eyes of the judges in overall sense, including appeal and sustainable offering.

The MOD sustainable and germ-free pack for Himesh Foods is an elegant, eco-friendly, and microbial resistant package. PET laminated substrates are eliminated by applying bio-compostable food-grade coating on the reverse side of the virgin board. The bio seal is a patented formula ITC Life Science and Technology Centre developed. Similarly, the ITC R&D team has also developed a germ-free coating.

ITC re-engineered the fries ventilation carton for Burger King to address the sagging of the fries during transit. Numerous revamped options were developed to eliminate condensation. The virgin board carton is printed in offset to enhance the aesthetic graphic design. The run length was one-lakh cartons.

The Tata Tea Health Care Pack for Tata Consumer Products is an example of a natural package, with eye-catching design and value additions. The package has drip-off and spot gloss effects with a mixture of mild buff and shades at strategic places throughout the design. The gable top profile of the carton not only makes it structurally charming, but also helps with easy consumer accessibility and reusability. The run length was two-lakh cartons.

The Treat ice cream tub and lid for Innodis is an eco-friendly product that replaces rigid plastic with paper-based packaging. The leak-proof paper-based tub is reproduced from a polyethylene-coated virgin folding box board. UV gloss varnish coating gives it a shiny effect, making it both functional and appealing.

Black Dog carton employs different print technologies, gravure with lustrous metallic silver ink, and over print using offset UV. The three-ply board substrate, with sandwiched-fluted layer, adds to the sturdiness of the package.

Khoday India developed a board-to-board laminated premium carton. The package has an upper hand over the rest of the boards in terms of printability, with golden foil embossing on a rich black board.

Developed for Diageo India, the Royal Challenge whisky carton says sturdiness is its USP owing to higher grammage of the monoboard structure. Also, the carton uses different print technologies including gravure and offset, with multiple value addition features.

Woodnote whisky premium carton has a bright appeal on the shelf, with shades of cyan over ivory white plus gold foiling. It allows a combination of print, gold foil stamping, and matte finish.

Colour is an important element for attracting shoppers, and has the ability to enhance brand experience. PVR corn chips have attributed vibrant colours for each distinct flavour, from fiery red for the spicy flavour to cool blue for the salty snack.

And, the top layer employs matte finish to enhance grip for comfortable snacking. The hues of the packages are reproduced using gravure. Overall, the product with multiple design segments, colours and matte finish makes the package redefine the premium appearance.

Snapin is a resealable zipper standup pouch developed for Duval Enterprises. It was recently launched, and comes in two different colours depicting its product flavours. The designs of the pouches are best printed using rotogravure printing with fine clarity and stunning look.

The motto was to serve as a secondary pack for collating the primary seasoning sachets, thereby allowing easy transportation and marketing. Plus, the integrated Euro punch increases the shelf appeal, in terms of features such as hanging and easy handling.

The Chivas Regal 18 years rigid box is designed and reproduced with a combination of different printing technologies. Its lid is made eco-friendly and sustainable by the elimination of regular rigid plastic.

The entire outer box is given a premium matt finish with tangible tactile patterned spot gloss effect, and emphasises the brand text on logo and specific intricate design elements. A blend of three different UV varnishes are used for achieving these patterned texture gloss and matt combinational value addition.

Another Diageo development, Johnnie Walker limited edition gift pack is a three-ply carton with a middle micro fluted layer. It has a see-through PET window that enables product visibility in the packed state.
