IPPTA brings stakeholders together to promote use of paper in packaging sector
The Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (IPPTA) will host a two-day zonal seminar on 3-4 August 2023 at the CFTRI auditorium, Mysuru. The subject is replacing single-use plastic with paper in special applications, which will be discussed by a panel.

A popular option for paper packaging is that it is biodegradable and renewable. However, creating an efficient and cost-effective barrier to protect food is a challenge for the paper industry.
The seminar will see discussions over statutory requirements, product requirements and paper specifications by research scholars and industry experts. IPPTA will organise a panel discussion over the use of paper in critical applications.
The food packaging technology department at CSIR-CFTRI has been working on various aspects of food packaging. It covers the thermal processing of foods, active and intelligent packaging, biodegradable packaging, safety evaluation of food packaging materials, and shelf-life analysis of foods.

Since the ban on single-use plastic, paper mills have shifted to paper substitutes, such as paper bags, paper straws and paper food packaging boxes.
Packaging is the fifth largest sector in the Indian economy. And the food packaging segment is as significant as 30% of the total packaging demand of the industry.
