In his keynote address, Anthony D’souza, president, Institute of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers of India (IPMMI) shed light on the organisation’s progress and initiatives. He said, “We represent the packaging fraternity, and envision to mitigate the challenges faced and pave the way ahead, for academia too.”

Although driven by innovation, SMEs and MSMEs are affected by the economic hurdle. And, cross-association across the supply chain is essential. It supplements mutual growth and fosters strong partnerships.

“IPMMI seeks to strengthen collaborations with global counterparts, leverage digitalisation, automation, and artificial intelligence in packaging machinery manufacturing,” D’souza added.

RK Mishra, director, Indian Institute of Packaging, addressed the capability of the Indian packaging industry and exposure globally. Focusing on the exports segment, he said, “In India, the per capita consumption of packaging has doubled in the past ten years.”

The evolution of smart labels will catalyse the growth of respective packaging machine manufacturers. On this, Mishara added, “The packaging industry should be ready to meet the demands of the changing landscape. And, in order to thrive, you have to strive.”

Naveen Seth, deputy secretary general, PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) spoke about how it has enabled Market Access Initiative (MAI) for the packaging industry. Seth said that 65% of the industry are MSME companies and PHDCCI is “extending an arm” to them, and can become the voice of the industry. He said, “The PHD in PHDCCI definitely means peace, harmony and development.”
