The Films & Flexible Packaging Summit will take place on 30 September and 1 October at Reliance Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai.

This edition of Elite Plus’ Speciality Films & Flexible Packaging Global Business Summit will provide attendees with an opportunity to interact with leaders in the industry. Experts will present the latest developments in raw materials, chemicals, additives, and processing machinery. The conference will also cover various developments and initiatives to enhance sustainability in packaging manufacturing.

This event comes a month in advance of the upcoming United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Summit on a legally binding international instrument addressing plastic pollution in South Korea this November. At this summit, representatives from 170 nations will deliberate on the future of plastics in packaging.

This summit is expected to be attended by over 2,200 industry leaders from across the world. Until now, the summit has had more than 1,700 attendees from 610 organisations representing 25 countries.

After a welcome speech by Nidhi Verma, founder and managing director, Eliteplus, Nadir Godrej, chairman and managing director, Godrej Industries will address the audience on creating a purpose-driven brand: The power of social responsibility. Followed by a session on sustainable growth by Saugata Gupta, managing director and CEO, Marico Limited.

The show will host six panel discussions and eight business sessions across two days. Industry stalwarts will participate and deliver sessions including Ashok Chaturvedi of UFlex Group; Anand Kripalu of EPL Ltd; Amit Chaturvedi of Reliance Industries; Pankaj Potdar and Kapil Anand of Cosmo Film and many such prominent leaders of the industry.

What’s new in this edition

The industry is actively pursuing sustainability by investing in eco-friendly technologies, recycling, and responsible practices. It seeks to reduce the environmental footprint of plastics while offering economic benefits and meeting the increasing demand for plastic products.

At the summit, experts will address topics such as circular economy models, plastic recycling technologies, and infrastructural improvements.

Key areas of focus include minimising plastic waste through design modifications, material reduction, and enhanced waste management; incorporating recycled or sustainably sourced materials in plastic production; cutting energy consumption in production and processing; and implementing carbon capture, utilisation, and storage technologies to reduce carbon footprints.

The summit will also cover Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), emerging technologies, scientific breakthroughs, and the responsibilities of stakeholders in meeting sustainability guidelines.

The summit will present brand owners with guidance on innovations in packaging for processed food, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and personal care, among other things. They will also have the opportunity to interact with post-consumer recycling experts.

The Insight Window, a session at the summit will address the challenges faced by the value chain. This includes converters, machine manufacturers, resin producers, and brand owners — and will explore how they can collaborate with government policymakers. The session will also explore opportunities and challenges associated with using recyclate in both mono and multilayer packaging.
