Muhammad Rafiq Shaikh emphasised the role of Kongsberg’s solutions in accelerating the development process for converters, noting that the company's machines allow for rapid sample production, ensuring quicker turnaround times.

The demand for short-run production is growing, especially as new entrepreneurs enter the market with smaller, more specific orders. "Many new entrepreneurs are looking for support in branding and smaller production runs. Our solution is ideal for those who need 100 or 200 boxes, as it provides a replica of what can be done on die-punching machines," he added.

Talking about automation, Shaikh said that while the need for automation in short-run production is not yet widespread in India, it may become more relevant in the coming years. "India is not yet a market that prioritises automation due to lower labour costs, but we do offer solutions where pressing a button can automate the loading, cutting, and delivery processes. It's just a bit early for the market here."

Additionally, Shaikh pointed to the growing demand for sustainable packaging and the influence of e-commerce as significant drivers for the corrugation sector. "The demand for sustainable packaging, especially with the rise of online businesses and new entrepreneurs, is pushing corrugators and folding carton converters into new segments. This is driving growth, particularly in the market for die-cut boxes, where our solutions are essential."

Kongsberg plans to raise awareness about the benefits of short-run production for profitability and creativity. Shaikh also highlighted Kongsberg’s latest innovation, the Ultimate. "We’ve launched Kongsberg Ultimate, which is a digital cutting table that can reach speeds of 168 metres per minute. This machine can change the dynamics of the corrugation market, allowing businesses to scale up their short-run production significantly."
