Highlights from IPMMI’s Envision 2023 at Aamby Valley

Institute of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers of India (IPMMI) hosted a two-day packaging leadership networking event at Aamby Valley City, Lonavala on 29-30 July. The discussion forum forayed to compete yet collaborate.

Packaging machine manufacturers engage in a brainstorming session

On day-one, Anthony D’souza, president, Institute of Packaging Machinery Manufacturers of India (IPMMI) said, “We represent the packaging fraternity, and envision to mitigate the challenges faced and pave the way ahead.”

“Cross-association across the supply chain is essential. And, IPMMI seeks to strengthen collaborations with global counterparts, leverage digitalisation, automation, and artificial intelligence in packaging machinery manufacturing,” added D’souza.

RK Mishra, director of Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), started his speech with focus on exports capability of the Indian packaging industry. He said, “In India, the per capita consumption of packaging has doubled in the past ten years.”

Mishra added, “The packaging industry is evolving; it is adapting measures to create a circular economy. However, it must meet the demands of the changing landscape, with smart labels RFID holds the potential to catalyse this segment.”

Naveen Seth, deputy secretary general, PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) spoke about how it has enabled Market Access Initiative (MAI) for the packaging industry. Seth said that 65% of the industry are MSME companies and PHDCCI is an ‘extending an arm’ to them, and can become the voice of the industry. He said, “The PHD in PHDCCI stands for peace, harmony and development.”

On day-two of Envision 2023, industry experts engage in a brainstorming session.  Five group discussions cover the subjects that are pillars upon which IPMMI is founded on.

The topics included - upliftment of the micro industry segment for manufacturing; export promotion to every part of the world; build a strong government representation; reputation building for packaging machinery manufacturers; and projecting the one voice for packaging development and innovation.

The activity promoted the activities of IPMMI to the packaging manufacturers’ body. With this, the objective of IPMMI to educate the packaging industry and drive progress was achieved.
