Hazratganj market was transformed into a hub of environmental awareness as the Dainik Bhaskar app, in collaboration with Lucknow Nagar Nigam hosted a “Say No to plastic” awareness campaign.
The event was conducted in order to celebrate International Plastic Bag Free Day. It aimed to educate the public to reduce plastic bag usage and embrace sustainable alternatives.
The highlight of the event was an installation of a Plastic Ravana, displayed at the market’s main junction. Fashioned from plastic materials, the symbolism of the effigy was to draw parallels between the mythical demon king Ravana and the menace and destruction caused from plastic pollution.
The evening comprised several activities. A rally of over 150 participants paraded from Hazrathganj Chouraha to Janpath Market emphasising on the urgency to combat plastic pollution. Jute bags, a sustainable alternative, were distributed to attendees. Furthermore, stickers embellished the streets encouraging passers- by to opt for sustainable alternatives.
Major figures of the local administration were present on the occasion including the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor, Directorate of Urban Development and many others.
The Dainik Bhaskar Group stated that it has a longstanding commitment to raise awareness about environmental issues. They aim to foster a culture of environmental awareness across the nation.
