Last week, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) carried out a search and seizure operation at the warehouses of Amazon and Flipkart in Delhi. It seized thousands of products that violated quality control orders.
During the inspection on 19 March at Amazon’s warehouses, BIS seized 3,500 products that either lacked an ISI mark or had a fake one. The confiscated items included geysers, food mixers, and other electrical appliances worth INR 70-lakh, according to a BIS press release.
An Amazon spokesperson stated that the company requires sellers to comply with applicable laws and Amazon’s policies. The company will take appropriate action when notified.
In another operation, BIS raided Instakart Services, Flipkart’s subsidiary, where a stock of sports footwear packaged for dispatch was found without ISI markings or a manufacturing date. Over 590 pairs of sports shoes worth INR six-lakh were seized.
