Bhumipujan ceremony of PepsiCo in Assam on 6 September

The government of Assam govt has inked MoUs with major companies like PepsiCo India, etc. This will mean investments that notch up to Rs 8,200 crore. PepsiCo will set up a potato chips manufacturing plant in Banekuchi, Nalbari for a project cost of Rs 778 crore.

The chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on 5 September that "Assam has laid the red carpet for industries to invest in the state and reap benefits of the limitless opportunities it has to offer." 

Chief minister Sarma will preside over the Bhumi-Pujan of PepsiCo India's new food manufacturing plant in Nalbari. On the occasion, Sarma said, "This is a great demonstration of Assam’s unique customised industrial policy."

The total area allocated is 44.20 acres and the project cost is Rs 778 crore. This particular PepsiCo project will ensure employment generation of 450+ persons. As per a Assam government PR note, "The government of Assam has provided incentives to PepsiCo to facilitate the establishment of this ambitious project." The chief minister said, this project will "give a fillip to the economy of the state as well as create opportunities for the auxiliary industries."

In addition, the PepsiCo plant is expected to provide a huge boost to the farmers of the state through improved technology, high quality seeds, disease control measures etc.

The location of the project is Banekuchi, Nalbari. This is part of Assam government's commitment to "promoting industrial development in various parts of Assam. It not only promises economic progress but also showcases the region's potential for growth and investment.

As per a government statement, PepsiCo's investment in Assam is expected "To provide employment opportunities to women; this will be a significant boon for women employability." Furthermore, the project is poised to contribute to the growth of the rural economy by generating numerous indirect employment opportunities, providing economic empowerment to women in the vicinity.
