Supriya Srivastava, vice president, sheetfed and tobacco, India region, Siegwerk’s folding carton cluster, oversees operations with a focus on integrating the company’s values into everyday practices. “My role is about driving business growth and ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the business,” she explained.
Supriya’s career began in the automobile industry, followed by a shift into the food sector, before she transitioned to the packaging industry 13 years ago. “This is my first experience in the ink industry, and it has been a fascinating new facet of my professional journey,” she shared. Her career has given her extensive experience in dynamic industries, where she has learned to embrace new challenges and contribute significantly to organisational growth.
Her leadership approach centres on being approachable and fostering collaboration. “Being able to connect with people is key,” she said. “A consultative leadership style helps create alignment within teams and makes implementing changes easier.”
Effective coordination between departments is another instrumental part of her role. Srivastava believes in transparency and teamwork, facilitating regular discussions and workshops to ensure open communication. “By creating an environment where team members feel comfortable sharing insights and resolving differences, we foster collaboration and shared accountability,” she noted.
Looking to the future, Srivastava highlighted sustainability as a key trend in the packaging industry. “Sustainability and circularity will define the future of the industry,” she said. As consumer expectations rise, companies must innovate to reduce environmental impact while complying with stricter regulations. This need for innovation, combined with operational efficiency, is essential for maintaining competitiveness and profitability.
For young professionals aspiring to leadership roles in the packaging industry, Srivastava advises perseverance, expertise, and confidence. “The packaging industry is full of opportunities, but success requires mastering your craft and being resilient,” she stated.
As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Srivastava has encountered challenges but remains optimistic about change. “The mindset is evolving,” she remarked, stressing that diversity in hiring and inclusive work environments are essential for fostering progress. “Recognition should be merit-based, and as more women assume leadership roles, this perspective will continue to shift.”
