A Towards Packaging study evaluated the sachet packaging industry at USD 8.89-billion in 2022. Over the next decade, the industry is set to surge to an estimated USD 15.2-billion at a CAGR of 5.5%.

Chhota packet, bada dhamaka: a Hindi phrase, that means making a big impact with a small move. Here, the move is the effectiveness of compact sachets in the packaging industry. Sachets offers convenient and cost-efficient packaging and extends its applications to a wide array of industries including F&B, personal care and pharmaceuticals.

Given the rising disposable incomes and a growing consumer base, the sachet packaging market is set to expand its reach across various geographic regions. Also, technological advancements in packaging technology are anticipated to bolster the surge further. Besides, innovations in materials, sealing techniques, and printing capabilities will enhance the attractiveness and functionality of sachet packaging.

With an increasing focus on sustainability, the sachet packaging industry is likely to witness a shift towards eco-friendly materials and production processes. Manufacturers must invest in sustainable solutions to meet evolving consumer preferences and regulatory requirements.

During the projected period, the Asia-Pacific region is poised for substantial advancements and is projected to exhibit the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR). This can be attributed to the escalating levels of industrialisation, urbanisation, globalisation, and the robust expansion of the packaging industry within the region.

On the material front, plastic continues as the top choice for sachet packaging. Its versatility, durability and cost-effectiveness make it a choice for manufacturers. These represent the major players in the industry including Amcor, ProAmpac Holdings, Constantia Flexibles, Huhtamaki, Sonoco Products, Mondi Group, Sealed Air, Coveris, Clondalkin Group and Syntegon among others.

In June 2023, Amcor, an international pioneer in developing and producing overseeing packaging solutions declared the enhancement of its AmFiber performance paper packaging reach in Europe that includes heat seal sachets for beverage and dry culinary usage, such as instant coffee, dried soups, drink powders, spices, and seasonings.

In February 2023, a company dealing in flexible packaging and material science named ProAmpac declared the release of ProActive recyclable paper-1000. It is the first product released in a series of the latest paper-based packaging solutions. It is heat-sealable with a good moisture barrier and exceptional directional tear properties.

In January 2023, Seven Spring unveiled India’s inaugural 100% compostable tea sachet, marking a significant leap in sustainable packaging solutions. This innovative product reflects a commitment to eco-conscious practices, aligning with global efforts towards environmental preservation.

The projections outlined in this study indicate the high potential of the  sachet packaging market.
