ProductWatch: Multimax tamper-evident labels

Manoj Kochar of Holoflex says, "Counterfeiting is a global issue that requires a coordinated approach. By bringing together key stakeholders, we aim to drive innovation, share knowledge, and develop robust strategies to combat counterfeiting effectively." That's what Holoflex has been trying to do with its Multimax tamper-evident labels

Multimax is used as a tamper-evident seal to seal pharmaceutical products, auto components, energy metre, lubricants, electronics parts, and FMCG

Name of the product:
Multimax tamper-evident labels.

What does it do?
These are called tamper evident labels or seals. Holoflex has developed a range of security labels with a very high degree of tamper evidence, which we call Multimax. It is ideal for "multiple technologies for maximum security."

Describe the applications
These seals are used wherever there is a need to prevent the unauthorised opening of a product by unscrupulous elements – such as a warranty seal. In some other cases, the brand likes to seal their packaging – such as mono cartons to ensure that the packaging is not opened to tamper with the product. These can be used wherever there is a need to secure a product or package against tampering.

How does Multimax ensure tamper resistance?
The ideal performance is that if these tamper evident labels are removed, they will leave some tell-tale signs on the packaging. And so, the end consumer can identify that the package or the product has been tampered with. Manoj Kochar says, "In fact we can even customise the release message on the packaging."

When was Multimax launched?
Holoflex has been making tamper-evident labels almost since we started manufacturing holograms more than 30 years ago. Over the years, the product has kept getting refined and we have enhanced the same.

How has Multimax enhanced its features?
Through holographic security features; security designing; security inks; different types of tamper evidence – full transfer, partial transfer like VOID, dry peel labels – which leave no tack behind on the product after they are removed, no residue labels; and variable data – such as serial numbers, QR codes etc.

Does Multimax work on all types of substrates?
Yes, for instance, polyester-based, vinyl-based, polyolefin-based, in different thicknesses as per the customer needs

What is the target market?
Holoflex's tamper-evident labels are used across a wide range of applications. They are used as a tamper-evident seal to seal pharmaceutical products, auto components, energy metre, lubricants, electronics parts, FMCG. Holoflex has developed solutions for mobile phone camera seals etc.

What’s Multimax's USP?
The USP is Holoflex is one of the companies in the market that have in-house expertise and infrastructure to produce the solutions that they offer. The capability to manufacture holograms, security designing, security printing and integrating them on a tamper-evident label is very unique.

How does the Multimax differ from similar products in the market?
The presence of holographic elements in a tamper-evident label is quite critical. A seal without a holographic element can potentially be removed and replaced with another seal that looks just like the original seal. When the security seal has a holographic feature, then this replacement becomes more difficult as the counterfeiter then has to organise the holographic feature also, which would be extremely difficult.

Other than Multimax, anything else that Holoflex offers?
Holoflex can offer paper-based tamper evident labels, which is quite a change from the plastic film-based labels that are generally available. Quite clearly the more sustainable option.

Manoj Kochar says, "Our know-how and understanding of the various adhesive systems and the tamper-evident substrates is second to none"

How easily can one use the Multimax?
A tamper-evident label is very easy to apply – just like one would apply any other self-adhesive label, manually or through a label dispensing machine.

What kind of manufacturing compliance does Holoflex follow in India?
Being a security and authentication solution provider, Holoflex lays a lot of emphasis on secure manufacturing and material movement. Some of India’s most prominent and visible holograms are produced in the Holoflex factory and we put in a lot of effort to ensure that they remain secure and duly accounted for even within our premises. Holoflex is certified and is compliant to TuV:ASPA Hologram Safety and Security Management Systems. The factory follows a high level of cleanliness and good hygiene to meet the expectations of our pharmaceutical industry customers in particular.

Any certifications?
Today, Holoflex is certified under ISO:9001, ISO:14001, ISO:27001 and ISO:45001.

Which industries are Holoflex associated with?
Some of India’s biggest companies and state governments issued cards, tax stamps, and vehicle registration plates for a long time. Holoflex customers are spread all over the country, and the company exports to more than 40 countries all over the world.
