Product Watch: Hanatek UK’s Universal Friction Tester

A friction tester is used in the packaging industry to measure the slip resistance of a product, with the aim of predicting feed and running speed on an automatic glueing, erecting, filling or packaging line. Team WhatPackaging? spoke to Komal Scientific’s Mayank Bachhawat

Komal Scientific offers static and dynamic coefficients of the friction testers. It also includes peel, tear and seal integrity tests. It can be used for carton boards, non-woven, textiles, packaging and paper industries.

The load cell capacity of the friction tester is 30 N, while the resolution is 0.001 COF and the accuracy is 0.5g. The device is calibrated and traceable to recognised standards such as ISO, ASTM and friction test methods.

The sled material is 63.5-mm x 63.5-mm running against the base sample of 67-mm x 200-mm when using the positioning pins. The material can only be used in dry testing conditions.

“The equipment is easy to maintain and we always provide calibration services after the first year”, said Mayank Bachhawat, Komal Scientific. “It can also measure both static and dynamic friction.”

Komal Scientific also provides optional software which can be produced for data logging and reporting and allowing detailed statistical and graphical analysis of results, full PDF reporting and the creation of custom test routines.

The friction tester uses an intuitive test screen user interface, making it accessible and easy to use. There is also a pre-loaded ISO and ASTM friction test method, which has the ability to create a custom test. In terms of safety features, there is also an emergency stop button on the machine and load cell protection.
